Key Information

Cell type, whether tumor arose in adenomatous polyp, villous adenoma or tubular adenoma, exact size of lesion, location within colon, distance from tumor to edge of resected specimen, extension of primary tumor into blood vessels or lymph channels, presence of multiple tumors in other parts of colon/rectum, intraluminal extension (extension along inner surface to contiguous segments of colon), location and number of lymph nodes positive and number of nodes pathologically examined, extension to adjacent tissues (peritoneum, serosa, omentum, adjacent fat, adjacent organs), depth of penetration of tumor through bowel wall (Dukes' staging), biopsy results of any additional tumor sites identified during operation.
